What is deprecation?

A deprecated feature is one that remains in an application but is discouraged from being used. Deprecation can also apply to software systems, programming methods, hardware, and other areas. Many times, a deprecated feature will soon be removed and replaced with a newer feature. Features are deprecated before being removed to provide backward compatibility and to give users time to transition to newer standards.
